Bungalows on the Bay is the rebranded Chenay Bay Beach Resort. BOOK DIRECT FOR BEST PRICE! 35 cottages from $160-300 (below). There’s a pool, a beach, a beach bar with live music and on-site restaurant. Good location with a nice bay and decent snorkeling. Most cottages have a small kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, but no stove or oven.
Quick take: a laid-back resort for travelers who want an on-site beach and happy to spend lots of time at the resort. There’s plenty of on-site activities (including watersports), regular entertainment like live music, and a lively beach bar. Travelers looking for privacy and tranquility, however, may find it a bit too noisy.
The resort went through some rough times, with a hurricane in 2017 and a fire in 2016 which destroyed the restaurant. However, the property is in new hands and in 2023 finally getting the attention that it needs with improvements being made. Many of the cabins have been renovated and lounge chairs have been added to the pool and beach. The grounds are better landscaped than before, and the restaurant is also working again. There are regular live events and music, so check the Bungalows on the Bay event schedule for the latest.

Bungalows by the Bay is located on the East End of St. Croix and has its own beach. It’s a nice beach for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and other water sports and activities. Its shallow and calm waters make it good for young children. All in all, it’s a good choice for people seeking bungalows in the US Virgin Islands.

From Christiansted, it’s located along East End Road (Rt. 82). Look for a sign on the left side for Bungalows on the Bay Saint Croix. Turn left here and take that road to the parking lot at the resort. Park your car there and then walk 100 yards walk straight through the resort property to get to the beach.

The restaurant/bar had incredible burgers and fries. The bartenders Ken and JK were entertaining and personable which made for a great experience. They have fun events every night of the week like bingo and live music.
Jimmy and his family have worked so hard to make this a beautiful place to stay and have succeeded. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to visit St. Croix.

We went for the day on two separate days and this place has undergone so much renovation - we loved it!! The food and drinks were excellent, the atmosphere was really fun and laid back, beach was really clean, and the paddleboards and kayaks available for use were AMAZING for kids and adults alike!! We will absolutely be back. So happy that this place has been rejuvenated.

Staff is amazing! The bungalows are so cute and it’s all you need for a long stay or quick getaway. Just a walk from the bungalows to the restaurant-amazing food and drinks, right onto the beach. Quiet and peaceful at night. Great music and entertainment. Dogs are allowed and you can even visit with the bush dogs and cruzan cats that live there. Great snorkeling as well. One of our favorite places on the island!

The cottage was very good, however the toilet did not work! It also looked like the toilet water was standing for awhile, the bacteria stained inside the toilet circumference. The a/c was a little too loud. Overall it was a nice stay.

Great property best location. Right on water great stuff very relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy Kayaking snorkeling beach activities all included. Restaurant also has great food specials the wings. My family a party of 5 had 2 bungalows which overlooks the ocean. Definitely worth it and definitely we will be back.

Great location in Christiansted. Property is right on Cheney Bay with a pool. The facilities are a bit run down and could use an upgrade. However we would definitely go there again.

We stayed in 2013 and again 2023. Recently under new owner. Planning MASSIVE renovation. Bungaloos a little dated but sufficient. New restaurant with limited menu but great food. Delicious! Staff is friendly and accomodating. Very nice beach. If you want a quiet laid back time this is the place. Not the typical tourist vacation...more low key and laid back. It is my go to place to recharge my batteries.

Fun, casual beach resort
LikedWe had a great stay. The beach is gorgeous, nice sandy area with areas to snorkel, next to a nature preserve. The pool is lovely & overlooks the water front. Beautiful sunset views. We enjoyed the bar & grill and the meals we had there were great & conveniently located by the beach. Our bungalow was roomy with lots of drawers & closet space. The new owners are in the process of updating but the rooms are quite sufficient as is- ours had a kitchenette. This isn't a fancy place- if you expect room service & something like Sandals this is not it. But it's a great reasonably priced casual beach resort that is just a short drive to Christiansted. They had live music several nights & we enjoyed the steak special one night. Everyone was very friendly - staff and guests. We look forward to future stays.

Enjoyable stay but beds need improvement
DislikedThe bungalow we stayed in hadn’t been fully renovated yet. There were a number of issues (loose toilet seat, broken kitchen drawer, peeling cabinet paint, peeling porch paint), mostly minor stuff though. The biggest disappointment was the bed mattress. Very stiff and noisy springs. The most important feature of an accommodation is the bed comfort and this facility rated maybe a 3/10. What a wonderful place this will be when the new owners, who are working very hard, can catch up with all of the minor maintenance and refreshment but priority needs to be given to upgrading the beds.

LikedWe live on island part time and stayed here for a few days..Love the new owners! They have alot of renovations to do and it will take time (island time!!) but they will do anything to accomodate you!! The staff is also wonderful and accomodating..A special shout out to Connor, the bartender..He is a gem and should get a raise!!! The beach is wonderful and you can walk almost all of the way to the Marina...and great entertainment too!!

Nice stay in a perfect quiet place away from the crowds.
LikedUnit 19 was nice sized with a basic bathroom which worked. Some items needed maintenance attention and updates but everything was functional. The view of the ocean was only visible from the small front porch but the beach was very close by in a short three minute walk. The staff were super nice and helpful. The beach area, restaurant and bar were exceptional and made a very nice quiet spot. I would stay here again.

Yes, it’s popular with families because of the nice beach plus lots of events and activities to keep kids entertained.
Most the cottages have A/C, private bath and toilet, a small kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee maker. There is no stove or oven. It’s good for making light meals like breakfast. They also have porch or lanai to sit on and relax. The ones in the back have garden views, while the more expensive ones closer to the water offer a seaview.
No, there isn’t an airport shuttle. Guests either take a taxi or rental car from the airport.
Depends on how much you plan to leave the resort. If you plan to leave a lot to visit Christiansted, Frederiksted, etc, or tour the island, then a rental car will be a better deal. If you just plan to chill mostly at the resort with only a few trips outside, then you’re better off simple renting taxis.
Aside from the water activities (pool, kayaking, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboard), there are tennis courts and a basketball court.

Spend 4 nights here and am so happy with our decision. Bungalows in the Bay has new owners as of late 2022 and they are gradually renovating the entire property. We stayed in Bungalow 41 - amazing water view and so peaceful and quiet. Bungalow was very clean and comfortable, roomy and AC worked perfectly. Bathroom needs little updating but again, everything worked well and it was very clean. The beach at BoBs (as the locals call it) is nice the bar/restaurant is vibrant with a good mix of guests and locals stopping by for food. They have nightly activities and mos important - the food is really good. Fish tacos were amazing and the cheeseburger is one of the top 5 I ever had. Also, the fries and great! The bartenders and friendly and they made an awesome painkiller. Breakfast are simple but very good. What makes Bungalows on the bay really special is the staff. Everyone at the bar/restaurant was very good, and Chermaine (sorry for spelling) at the front desk was exceptional. Highly recommend Bungalows in the Bay!
