Gentle Winds condos enjoy nice views of rolling hills and the ocean. There’s a sandy beach with thatched umbrellas and lounge chairs to sit on. A large pool, tennis and basketball courts, a practice golf course, a clubhouse and children’s play area make sure there’s plenty of things to do. Directions to Gentle Winds St. Croix
If you’re coming from the the airport:
- turn left from the airport onto East Airport Rd (Highway 64)
- take a right at the 2nd light. That will be Queen Mary Highway (Centerline Rd/70)
- at the second stop light, turn left onto Northside Rd (route 75) following signs to Christiansted.
- you’ll now be passing the La Reine Chicken Shack on the left and Pueblo supermarket on the right. This is a good opportunity to stop and stock up on provisions before you reach Gentle Winds.
- continuing on this road a mile or so and you’ll pass the Country Day School sign on the right. 300 yards later, turn left onto Northshore Rd (route 80). You should see a green “Sidney Lee Rd” sign on the left.
- after 1.5 miles, you’ll pass Salt River Marina on the right, and then 100 yards later on the right is the Gentle Winds Saint Croix entrance.

Gentle Winds Beach Shack
One of the great amenities of this condo community is the Gentle Winds Beach Shack, a.k.a the “Sunny Shack” This is a cozy beach bar & grill located on the beach which served tasty light fare like sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, wraps, quesadillas, etc. It also serves a wide selections of soft drinks, water, beer, and tropical cocktails made to order. The Beach Shack makes for a nice lunch after a morning of swimming, or a cool beer in the late afternoon. You’re free to take your food and drink to eat at the pool, on the beach, in the clubhouse, or take it back to your condo.
Normal working hours of the Sunny Shack are 11:30 am to 5 pm most days during the peak season, and variable hours in off-season.

Lovely Place!
My husband and I love St Croix, and Gentle Winds was the perfect place for our family. It was quiet, clean and in a great location. The owner and host are both very attentive and were concerned about our well-being the entire trip. We didn’t have any issues, so we never had a reason to contact them, but I know for a fact they were a call or text away had we needed anything at all. We are so glad we chose this unit at Gentle Winds. It’s very nice, updated and had everything we needed. I would not hesitate to stay in one of the O’Neill’s units in the future!

Exceeded our expectations!
This was our first visit to St. Croix, and we were a bit uncertain as to where to stay. But this condo turned out to be in an ideal location-- almost equidistant to Christiansted and Frederiksted, and only 12 minutes to Cane Bay. The private community of Gentle Winds felt completely safe, well cared for, and quiet. The small beach is beautiful, has a bit of a steep entry into the water, and small shells and treasures from the sea. We often saw sea turtles and even an eagle ray. The Fish tacos and drinks from the Beach Shack were great, which is so convenient right next to the pool. The unit itself exceeded our expectations! Both bathrooms had newer updates and solid surface counters/sinks, the new decor was charming, we loved the screened-in porch for sitting in the mornings, and the seating in the living room was great for eating and relaxing, not to mention the breathtaking view! The kitchen was well-equipped for reheating leftovers or cooking meals, making smoothies, etc. And all kinds of small amenities were not overlooked: bluetooth speaker, toaster oven, reusable grocery bags, beach towels, reef-safe sunscreen, bug spray, aloe vera, a cooler, and a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers on the table to greet us! Check-in was smooth and simple, and meeting the housekeeper/manager, Hyacinth, was a pleasure! Lastly, Patrick answered every question and provided a lengthy list of info and recommendations: a great host! We felt so welcomed and hope to visit again soon!

Perfect spot for multiple family vacation.
We were a group of 27 traveling in from multiple states. Although many of us had travel issues, once we arrived we had an amazing time! Having our own “home bases” but also having the pool, beach, and shack for food and drinks, (and just a group gathering spot) was so convenient. Patrick’s condo C-6 was more than we needed for my husband and I and our 2 adult kids. Patrick was very responsive and helpful prior to our trip and an amazing host! We will definitely be back!

Amazing vacation
The place was perfect for our family vacation! The property had everything we needed; pool, beach, bar with food (open in the afternoon), and a beautiful, clean, comfortable spacious condo for the 6 of us, all at a very reasonable price. It's located conveniently between the two towns, near tourist attractions and many nice beaches (Cane Bay is a MUST! Great beach with restaurant/bar across the street, awesome snorkeling off the beach and many turtles just hanging out in the crystal clear water. Both kids and adults loved it). The owners/hosts are incredible! They've though of every detail and go above and beyond to make guests feel at home. I've stayed in many VRBO's, and this was by far the best for many reasons. Prior to arrival, Patrick sent us a packet of information with places to eat and recommended things to do so we could plan ahead. He was very responsive to text messages if we had any questions. On arrival they had cold water, beer/wine, a "pay it forward" bar waiting for us in addition to many incidentals for the full stay like toilet paper, sunscreen, paper towels, soap, spices, some beach supplies, etc. It wasn't just the standard single starter roll of TP or paper towels, rather they stocked us for the full week! This was super convenient as we arrived late and didn't have to run to the store right away. Note; groceries and food are very expensive on the island. I can't say enough good things about this place and the owners. We will definitely be back there

Our party of 6 had an amazing stay. Everything was just as described. Fully stocked and equipped! Plenty of room for everyone. The grounds were well kept and the pool and beach areas were perfect. Exactly as represented!
Couldn't have asked for a better situation for our family getaway and first time to St. Croix. The place was spacious and well-appointed (all new appliances and finishes), and met all our needs. Loved that it was only a short "pitching wedge" distance to the pool/beach and cornhole, shuffleboard, ping pong, etc. We didn't take advantage of the separate tennis courts or basketball hoop, but we appreciated very much how the location afforded us such easy access to both C'stead and F'stead and the island's two golf courses.

Best family vacation other 2023
The property and amenities was perfect. The condo was stocked with every kitchen amenity. There is a washer/dryer with detergent. Fans in every room. Beach towels, beach bags, sunscreen, water shoes and coolers. These were all the things we thought we needed to bring, and didn’t. The room was super clean and so spacious. We had 8 adults and were very comfortable. The screened in porch was amazing because the no see ums loved our Michigan blood. Eric had bug spray and sun screens in the room as well. Even assorted alcohol bottles were provided. Only negative was the Beach Shack was closed during our stay but it didn’t make much difference. If I could make any suggestions is to have water bottles in the fridge for arrival. The pool was so nice and clean, goggles and swim rafts provided. If I had to rate our experience it would be a 9.98/ 10. If the beach shack was open it would of been a 10/10. Eric Smothers the owner of J4 was very attentive and responded quickly to everything. Plus Ziggy the cat was our vacation cat and hung out with us daily for hours. Highly recommend. Thanks again Eric! We can’t wait to come back.

Perfect spot for our vacation
The condo was clean and was just as described! The condo development was very quiet the week we were there (which we prefer) and we often had the beach and pool all to ourselves! The pool was always clean and was perfect after long days out in the sun! The game room area next to the pool could use some updating. The location is central to both towns and all the activities they have to offer. A rental car is a must as restaurants and grocery stores are not walkable. We would definitely return to this property on our next trip to St Croix!

Wonderful Location for Families
Our family found this to be the perfect location for exploring the island. However, the Gentle Winds property, with the beautiful views, beach, beach bar, and pool, make relaxing at the condo also very enjoyable. We found the condo to be clean and stocked with many useful items, such as two beach chairs, coolers, ice packs, plenty of beach towels, and a pack-n-play for our young child. The host was also gracious enough to adjust the check-in and check-out times based on our flights, which was sincerely appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Loved the condo, it is a bit dated but who cares-you're on an island. The only cons I can even come up with is the check-in--the directions to the condo are great but the condo number should be I-6 it looks like a 16 and that is somewhat confusing when you Get there late. The only other thing is I wish it had black out curtains in each room. You're on vacation and might like to sleep in, plus the condo gets really warm in the summer evenings and these curtains would help with that as well. Lots of supplies and great beach towels. Condo was very comfortable and lots of room for 4 adults. We would definitely stay here again. Pool and beach at the condo are amazing but the water isn't the best for playing in because of its size and rocks/coral. Make sure you go to Cane beach right up the road and Flyers restaurant in Fredrickstead.

Thanks for sharing your Gentle Winds condo with us during our visit to St Croix. The unit was very clean and met all our needs. The condo is centrally located allowing easy trips east to Christiansted and west to Frederiksted. Gentle Winds is a very nice, quiet complex with a great pool and beach. Island hideaway
Gentle Winds resort is a great place to relax and avoid the stresses of the everyday world. Truly removed from the fast lane, one is free to spend time watching the waves and attune yourself to the rhythm of the sea. Truly quiet and serene and well maintained.

Great Vacation
My Family just returned from here, it was myself, husband and 2 teenage girls. The condo was in a great central location for us to jump back and forth to both sides of the island. The layout of the condo complex was perfect for us. It was so easy to get to the pool or beach. We loved having the Beach Shack right on the beach it was great to grab a quick lunch or drink. The teenagers loved the virgin daiquiris! The condo complex felt safe and was pretty quiet. We can't wait to return!

Had a wonderful time staying at Gentle Winds. Marsha was very responsive before our trip. We had everything we could have needed. The beach towels and sheets are a bit dated- and there was no soap in one bathroom but not a huge deal. We appreciated the offer for a late check out as well.

Great complex with both beach & pool
PROS: beautiful grounds - ideal condo complex because it has BOTH a beautiful pool & gorgeous beach right on site! Having the beach shack bar & grill right on the beach was also SO amazing! Condo is a one minute walk to pool &/or beach- walk right out the patio door and you’re there! You can hear the waves from the screened in porch which was so relaxing. Lots of beach towels to use and a well stocked kitchen with plenty of utensils, plates, pots/pans, glasses, etc. The owner was always quick to reply to any inquiries we had - very dependable. CONS: only minor cons we can think of to mention is that the unit is slightly “tired”/dated & could use some TLC. The master bedroom bed box spring was extremely noisy and when my husband would turn over at night, it would wake me up. The screened in porch was a little small for 4 people but we still managed to have fun out there & enjoy the beach waves. We usually only spent the evenings inside the unit, so none of these were a big deal for us.

Awesome views!
The property's views and proximity to the ocean were fantastic! The condo was basically clean, maybe needs a little overall TLC cleaning. But overall my group would go back to St. Croix and rent the condo again. Property owner called twice to inquire and give direction to the use of the unit and overall property.

Cute Condo
We had an amazing week at Gentle Winds J5. Mr Gordon was a great host, available for us if we had any questions or concerns and had recommendations for the island since we had never been. This was truly an amazing experience! We loved the condo. It was one of the best locations... close to beach and pool. It was stocked with everything you could want. I think the only thing we couldn’t find was a cutting board. Gordon definitely helped us out with recommendations for car rental. I would recommend this condo to anyone!!

This is a great location! The beach, pool and grounds are well kept and comfortable. The condo itself was perfect for our group of three women but can accommodate four. We especially liked the screened in porch as a place to eat breakfast an just chill. The other owners were friendly and glad to share information about things to do and places to go. If you intend to see more of the island you can get taxis but a rental car was valuable if you're comfortable driving on the left. Communication with Gordon was great, he even made a second phone call to expand on something that had been mentioned in an earlier call.

St Croix Paradise
Gentle Winds is a beautiful property. There was two days of our vacation that we didn’t even leave the property it is that nice. Loved the beach area on the property and the pool and the beach shack for lunch and drinks. Such a relaxing vacation. Robert and Maresa were wonderful hosts, took care of any concerns we had promptly. Would definitely stay here again. Hopefully soon.

This condo was lovely, clean, well appointed and the location is amazing! Great hosts-easy to communicate with and they were very supportive. Gentle Winds is a perfect vacation community. Big salt water pool, fun beach shack that serves drinks and beautiful beach. We rented 4 condos in this community for a family reunion. The amenities were perfect for all ages-basketball court, tennins/pickle ball court/playground and shuffleboard and more!

We had an absolute amazing time at this condo. My family fit comfortably. The Condo has a King bed which slept my husband and I, a Queen which slept my teen and my 7 YO, and a sofa pullout bed which was comfortable enough for my 16 YO. The condo is located directly in front of the pool, the beach and the beach shack. It was a short walk to all these amenities and made it easy to peak out the window and check on my kids (I could see the pool from the condo). The condo is located in a very serene location surrounded by lush mountains and the ocean. We made several trips away from the condo because there is so much to see and do in St Croix but it was nice to come "home" to our amazing "backyard" to relax and enjoy some yummy food and drinks from the Beach Shack. Very family friendly, grocery store (Food Town) was less than 2 miles away, also 12 minutes away from the Cane Bay Beach area which had great snorkeling and great restaurants in the area.

Amazing Condo and Condo Complex
We stayed at the condo including 3 adults and 2 children. The children shared the entry room with pull out bed. The owners are very responsive to any needs you have during your stay. The condo was perfect for the 5 us and did not feel crowded at all. The sun room and exterior garden area are a huge benefit over other condos in the property. We enjoyed the complex and it is very good for all types of travelers. For us, having the uncrowded pool and beach area for the kids without ever having to worry about them was a huge bonus. It's such a private and secure setting. The north side of St Croix is where the tourists tend to stay and being in the middle of the island has its benefits. It's easy to go to one side or the other on day excursions. Even staying at the complex was great. I highly recommend everything about this unit and location.

Fantastic Property
The property had all the comforts of home with spectacular views that totally made our week more enjoyable. Just a very short walk to the pool and beautiful beach. As an extra bonus, we were able to enjoy the excellent food and cocktails daily at The Sunny Shack! We would certainly recommend this rental and look forward to returning again someday in the future. Communication with the owner/manager was excellent.

We were booked to stay in unit C1. Unfortunately when we arrived the air conditioning was not working. The owners fortunately were quick too act and we moved to the building next door in their friends unit B3. The air condition in this unit was brand new and worked wonderfully. The only issue was the unit had not been throughly cleaned. I gave a cleanliness 5 star only because the original unit C1 was cleaned properly. We should have requested the unit be cleaned over but with the moving in and then moving to a different unit, we just wanted to start our vacation. After 2 days in the replacement unit, the owners claimed the unit air was fixed and for us to move back. At this point we just weren't hearing that. It was unseasonably HOT, there were 4 of us and we had belongings for 9 days. At that point it was too much of an undertaking. After a lot of going back and forth with the owners, they finally agreed we'd finish our vacation in unit B3. The beach was nice and it was great to have a bar and snack shack on the beach. The pool was nice and clean and I appreciated that there was an outside shower to rinse off in. The one thing I would warn about.. I did not like the winding roads to get up to the property. At night with no street lights was terrifying and traveling west during the sun setting was blinding. We've been to st croix many times and it was nice to have the space, the beach and comfort of the condo but I really preferred being closer to town. Just a matter of preference. Bottom line, the owners Bob and Marrisa were very accommodating.

The air conditioner in our unit C-1 has been replaced with a high efficiency state-of-the art Mitsubishi. The old AC had been working well but our monthly electric bills were running $600 - $700. We replaced the whole system - air handler and compressor. It was a capacitor that went on the old system unfortunately at the time of our guests’ arrival and was quickly repaired but they chose not to move back for the inconvenience although we offered assistance from staff and generous compensation. (Credit for one night). As for our neighbor’s unit it must be said that they have an excellent housekeeper, linens were fresh and all appliances , sinks, etc as they should be - there was just no time for a once-over and the guests declined further attention after they moved in. As for the windy road, it is quite scenic!

Wish you had mentioned it and we would have had a service technician icheck it out ASAP. No other complaints since your stay and there have been two other guests. Maybe related to changes in water pressure related to some work the HOA was doing at the time .

A Little Slice of Paradise
We absolutely loved our stay at Gentle Winds C1 condo. The condo was equipped with everything you could possible need for a relaxing vacation. The breeze was wonderful we didn't need the air-conditioner and felt very comfortable. The condo was exactly as described. The pool, beach and the Sunny Shack made it feel as though we were at a resort. We did rent a jeep which we used to explore St. Croix's history, culture and beautiful beaches. Still much more left to see and do. Looking forwrd to our next stay.

Gentle Winds FAQs (frequently asked questions)
Gentle Winds condo rentals cost between $250-450 per night, plus taxes and fees which adds ~30% more. The cheaper ones are 2 BR and older units, while renovated 3 BR units and those closest to the sea command the higher prices.
Absolutely! It’s one of the most-loved places on St. Croix for a number of reasons. First it’s located on the North Shore, which insiders know is the best place on the island because it is less crowded yet offers perfect access to every point on the island. Pristine vistas of the sea and surrounding green hills which have not been overbuilt like many other places in the Caribbean.
Secondly, the facilities & environment are superb: 40 acres of lush grounds, a private sandy beach, clubhouse, tennis, golf, basketball, a large pool, a clubhouse to gather, a beach shack for food & drinks, and the list goes on. Everything is here and you might not even want to leave!
Thirdly, you have an amazing number of condo rentals to choose from. There are 66 units, most for rent, so there’s almost one available.
Yes pets are allowed but there are strict rules to follow. According to the Gentle Winds HOA handbook, pets:
1. shall not be permitted on the seaside of any building (the seaside includes but is not limited to all grassy areas, shrubbery, walkways, beach, office area, pool area, beach shack, great room, patio, restaurant, and bar);
2. may be walked only on the grassy areas on the land-side common areas except between buildings D and E;
3. must be on a leash and supervised when outside; and walkers must pick up and properly dispose of all animal waste.
Most Gentle Winds condos for rent DO NOT ALLOW PETS. So if you’re thinking about bringing Fido, specifically clarify with the owner if it’s allowed and follow the rules above. If you don’t you may be forced to leave the condominium complex.
Yes, there is a nice sandy beach and swimming pool at Gentle Winds for swimming. The beach is about 150 yards long with a sandy bottom and easy slope, which is perfect for small children. The waves are usually small.
The beach goes out only about 30 yards where a protective reef begins, so you might not be able to do Triathalon-style swims, but it’s perfectly fine for most travelers.
Gentle Winds St. Croix check-in time is usually 3-5 pm and 10-11 am for checkout. Confirm with your condo rental’s owner or manager for specific timings as well as exceptions. Most owners can accommodate late arrivals or checkouts if there is not a conflicting schedule on that day.
Gentle Winds is located next to Villa Margarita on St. Croix’s north shore, about 20 minutes from St. Croix airport (“STX”) along North Shore Road.
